NCC compliance means that a building or building work meets all relevant requirements of the National Construction Code, including the structural, weatherproofing, fire safety, energy efficiency, and accessibility provisions that apply to roofing.
Understanding NCC Compliance
The National Construction Code (NCC) is the overarching regulatory framework for building construction in Australia, comprising the Building Code of Australia (Volumes One and Two) and the Plumbing Code of Australia (Volume Three). NCC compliance is a legal requirement for all building work that requires a building permit, and is verified by a registered building surveyor who issues permits and conducts inspections during and after construction. For roofing work, NCC compliance encompasses multiple performance requirements: the roof must be structurally adequate for the design loads (including wind uplift); it must prevent water penetration into the building; it must meet the relevant fire and bushfire resistance requirements; it must contribute to the overall energy efficiency of the building envelope; and, for certain building classes, it must provide appropriate condensation management. The NCC is updated on a regular cycle, with the current edition being NCC 2022.
