Colorbond
Definition
Colorbond is a pre-painted steel roofing and cladding product manufactured by BlueScope Steel, widely regarded as the most popular metal roofing material in Australia.
Understanding Colorbond
Colorbond steel is manufactured through a multi-layer process where a steel base is coated with a metallic alloy (either zinc or a zinc/aluminium blend), followed by a conversion layer, primer, and a durable baked-on paint finish. This system provides exceptional resistance to chipping, peeling, and cracking under the harsh Australian climate. Colorbond is available in over 20 standard colours through the Colorbond colour range, as well as specialised ranges such as Colorbond Matt and Colorbond Ultra for coastal environments. In Gippsland, Colorbond is the go-to choice for both new builds and roof replacements. Its lightweight nature reduces structural load compared to tiles, and it performs exceptionally well in the region's variable weather conditions — from heavy winter rains in the Strzelecki Ranges to hot, dry summers in East Gippsland. Colorbond also carries a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating, making it suitable for properties in bushfire-prone areas throughout the region. Colorbond roofing is available in corrugated, standing seam, and concealed-fix profiles. When correctly installed with appropriate flashings and fasteners, a Colorbond roof can last 30 to 50 years with minimal maintenance. Town & Country Roofing is experienced in working with the full range of Colorbond profiles and colours to suit any Gippsland property.
